OAKLAND \u2014 A driver whose passenger was killed in an Oakland freeway collision in January has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Alazjah Cannon, 32, of Pleasant Hill, was charged Monday in the January 3 death of TreVaughn Winston Brown, 34, who the coroner\u2019s bureau said was a resident of West Sacramento.<\/p>\n
A letter notifying Cannon of the charge being filed has been mailed to her home by prosecutors. The letter says she is required to appear in court on July 27.<\/p>\n
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cannon was driving a vehicle that was involved in a collision with another vehicle on westbound Interstate 580 east of Lakeshore Avenue on the night of Jan. 3.<\/p>\n
She was injured and Brown, her passenger, was killed, the CHP said. Two occupants of the other vehicle were also injured.<\/p>\n
According to court records, CHP officers allegedly found marijuana in her vehicle and believed that she was \u201cdriving a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance,\u201d which resulted in Brown\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
It was not clear what the relationship was between Cannon and Brown.<\/p>\n
Cannon was placed under arrest at the hospital and later made bail.
