San Francisco\u2019s district attorney on Monday charged a sheriff\u2019s deputy with two misdemeanors for allegedly assaulting a woman in jail last year.<\/p>\n
Deputy Nanette Musto on July 12, 2025 allegedly asked the woman, who was not identified by the DA, if she had \u201csurgically augmented her body,\u201d the DA\u2019s office wrote in a statement. \u201cUpon receiving the inmate\u2019s answer, Deputy Musto reached out and, without permission or lawful necessity, touched the inmate\u2019s breast.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The incident was recorded on jail surveillance footage, the DA\u2019s office wrote. Musto, 51, will be arraigned Tuesday morning. In the meantime, she has been reassigned, said Tara Moriarty, the sheriff\u2019s spokesperson. Musto could not immediately be reached for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe San Francisco Sheriff\u2019s Office takes all allegations of employee misconduct very seriously,\u201d Moriarty said. The complaint against Musto was immediately assigned to the sheriff\u2019s Criminal Investigations Unit, Moriarty said. When the unit completed its investigation, the case was referred to the DA for an independent review.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The woman remains detained in County Jail No. 2 at 425 7th St., according to jail staff and her attorneys. She is named as a plaintiff in a separate May federal class action lawsuit<\/a> filed against the city, sheriff, sheriff\u2019s department and individual deputies.<\/p>\n
