An “armed and dangerous” suspect was fatally shot by Oakland police after he lunged at officers with a knife, officials said.<\/p>\n
The police shooting was reported 2 p.m. Monday at a shopping center parking lot in the area of 40th Avenue and International Boulevard. <\/p>\n
“Officers attempted to deescalate the situation by giving commands. The suspect refused,” Beere said at a news briefing following the shooting. “At which point the subject attacked the officers, causing the officers to use less lethal and lethal force.”<\/p>\n
The suspect succumbed to their injuries at the scene and the two officers involved in the shooting were not injured, Beere said.<\/p>\n

The police chief said the response stemmed from a California Highway Patrol investigation.<\/p>\n
CHP told NBC Bay Area the investigation involved a homeless encampment contact armed with a knife.<\/p>\n
When the suspect who had “dangerous weapons” ran away from CHP officers, the agency requested assistance from the Oakland Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police located the armed suspect at the shopping center parking lot prior to the deadly shooting.<\/p>\n
An investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
