Outgoing Director Annette Bernhardt will continue to support the program and our partners in her new position as the Labor Center’s Senior Tech Policy Advisor.

Lisa has served as a Senior Researcher at the Labor Center since 2020, where her research focuses on how artificial intelligence and other digital technologies are designed, adopted, and governed, and the implications for workers, work organization, and working conditions. She also studies how public policy, collective bargaining, and worker participation can shape technological change to promote job quality, worker well-being, safety, and equity. She is widely recognized for the depth of her research, including Negotiating Tech: An Inventory of US Contract Provisions for the Digital Age. In addition to her research, she provides training and technical assistance to unions, policymakers, and worker organizations on technology governance, collective bargaining, and strategies for ensuring that emerging technologies benefit workers and the public interest.

Lisa was selected for the position of program director following an extensive search with many outstanding candidates. Her new role underscores the Labor Center’s commitment to developing emerging leadership within our organization and the labor movement as a whole.

Before joining the Labor Center, Lisa conducted research on farmworker health, housing, and working conditions at the California Institute for Rural Studies. She holds a master’s degree in community development from UC Davis and a dual undergraduate degree in anthropology and sociology from the College of Idaho.

Annette Bernhardt is excited to step into the role of Senior Tech Policy Advisor, allowing her to take stock of the field of tech and work policy and explore new research projects. She will also continue to support the Tech and Work Program, advising policymakers, unions, and other stakeholders on how best to shape public policy to ensure AI and other digital technologies work for workers.

“We are proud to provide research, policy analysis, technical assistance, and training for worker organizations and policymakers as they navigate and respond to rapid technological change,” said Brenda Muñoz, Executive Director. “Together, we hope to ensure that AI and other new technologies benefit, rather than harm, workers. I am excited that Lisa will now be leading this work and that Annette will continue to support the program and our partners in her new role.”

We are excited to share that former Senior Researcher Lisa Kresge is the new Director of the Labor…

[34
143,145,144
post-398011","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-oakland","tag-oakland","tag-oakland-headlines","tag-oakland-news
["GET
