{"id":398794,"date":"2026-07-15T02:43:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T02:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/398794\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T02:43:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T02:43:21","slug":"congressman-robert-garcia-approves-225-million-for-port-of-long-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/398794\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressman Robert Garcia approves $225 million for Port of Long Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Long Beach Mayor and current Congressman Robert Garcia announced Tuesday a $225 million investment into the Port of Long Beach from the U.S. House of Representatives\u2019 Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investment, which will be split between the federal government and the Port\u2019s channel-deepening project, comes with approval under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usace.army.mil\/Missions\/Civil-Works\/Water-Resources-Development-Act\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Water Resources Development Act<\/a>. The money will go towards expanding the Port\u2019s main channel, strengthening its supply chain and reducing pollution from ships waiting to dock outside the harbor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a huge win for Long Beach, for our workers, and for people across the country who depend on goods moving through our port every single day,\u201d Garcia said in a public statement. \u201cI\u2019ve been fighting for this project since my days as Mayor of Long Beach, and today we took a major step toward getting it done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investment is meant to help the Port lower costs, prevent cargo delays and reduce pollution from ships idling outside the harbor. Garcia also helped to secure $283 million for the Port in December 2023 for its <a href=\"https:\/\/robertgarcia.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-robert-garcia-announces-283-million-federal-mega-grant-port-long\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pier B On-Dock Rail support Facility Program<\/a>, which connected the Port with inland rail yards and reduced truck traffic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPorts and the supply chain are vital to our economy, enabling commerce and energizing business activity across the nation.
