LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) \u2014 The Long Beach Mayor and Board of Aldermen heard from a short-term rental committee Tuesday during a work session focused on the city\u2019s policies and ordinances governing the industry.<\/p>\n
The committee was tasked with analyzing several issues, including how to address rentals operating illegally and whether to require yearly safety inspections. <\/p>\n
Members also considered whether the city should place a cap on the number of short-term rentals allowed to operate.<\/p>\n
Mayor Tim Pierce said a cap is not an immediate concern.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, it\u2019s really not a problem to solve, but that was one of the issues they wanted to look at,\u201d Pierce said. \u201cDo we want to lessen the numbers? But right now, that\u2019s not an issue that we\u2019re seeing. So, that will be addressed. We\u2019ll look at it, see what we can do, we may put some limits, but as of right now, there is really no issue to solve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pierce said short-term rentals serve a role in the local economy by providing lodging for tourists attending large events and encouraging spending in the city.<\/p>\n
