Soccer fans in Oxnard, California got a little too excited after the FIFA match between Mexico and England on July 5, and one driver’s celebration ended up costing them a month without their truck. The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit tracked down and impounded a truck connected to a burnout that took place in the aftermath of the game, and the vehicle isn’t going anywhere for 30 days.

According to police, the truck was seen taking part in what they’re calling dangerous burnout activity, the kind of stunt driving that turns a parking lot or intersection into an impromptu show for anyone with a phone camera. Those clips have a way of finding their way onto social media, and it looks like this one did too. Police didn’t need much time to identify the vehicle and go get it.

For those unfamiliar with how these things tend to play out, burnouts and street takeovers have become a recurring headache for law enforcement across Southern California, especially after big sporting events when crowds and adrenaline are already running high. Oxnard PD made clear this wasn’t a one-off reaction. They’re treating it as part of an ongoing effort to crack down on reckless driving before it leads to something worse than a scorched tire and a viral post.

It’s a good reminder that what feels like a fun moment behind the wheel can turn into a really expensive one. A month in impound isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s storage fees, lost time, and probably an uncomfortable conversation with whoever’s name is on the title.

What Actually Happened

Police say the truck was identified as taking part in burnout activity shortly after the Mexico vs. England match wrapped up on July 5.

The department didn’t release details on how exactly the truck was flagged, but between traffic cameras, witnesses, and the sheer number of people filming these events these days, it rarely stays a secret for long.

The vehicle was tracked down and impounded by the Traffic Unit, with the 30 day hold now in effect.

Why Police Are Taking It Seriously

Oxnard PD was straightforward about their reasoning, stating that reckless driving isn’t entertainment and that it puts the community at risk. Burnouts might look harmless in a video, but they happen in public streets and parking lots where bystanders, other drivers, and property are all within range of a car spinning its wheels with limited control.

The department reiterated it plans to keep investigating similar incidents and that anyone participating in street takeovers should expect consequences.

The Internet Weighed In, Naturally

As with most posts like this, the comment section had plenty to say. A few pointed out the irony of posting the stunt online only to have it help police find the truck, essentially handing over the evidence for free. Others asked a fair question, wondering whether the same enforcement applies evenly across different types of vehicles, from trucks to sedans to sports cars, and what kind of fines might come with a citation like this.

Whether this truck’s owner planned on a month-long timeout is unclear, but it’s a solid example of how quickly a celebratory burnout can turn into a parking spot at the impound lot.
