Anthony Vitale at the town of Oakland approached the police department in 2016 wanting to start a K-9 program. \u00a0He collected enough donations to acquire Chase and the necessary equipment to put him to work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"h974251-p3\" class=\"permalinkable\">They began working together in 2017, and Chase retired from the agency in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"h974251-p4\" class=\"permalinkable\">\u00a0In his retirement, K-9 Chase lived out the rest of his days with Vitale. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"h974251-p5\" class=\"permalinkable\">Five years after his retirement on Friday, July 10, Chase crossed the rainbow bridge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"h974251-p6\" class=\"permalinkable\">The OPD said he leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, courage and unwavering dedication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"h974251-p7\" class=\"permalinkable\">&#8220;We extend our deepest condolences to Chase&#8217;s handler, family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him,&#8221; OPD posted. &#8220;Thank you for your service, Chase.
