{"id":401554,"date":"2026-07-17T00:51:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T00:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/401554\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T00:51:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T00:51:31","slug":"upte-members-rally-with-families-and-elected-leaders-to-keep-lifesaving-care-in-oakland-upte-university-professional-technical-employees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/401554\/","title":{"rendered":"UPTE members rally with families and elected leaders to keep lifesaving care in Oakland \u2014 UPTE \u2013 University Professional &#038; Technical Employees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">On July 9, UPTE organized a rally in conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parentvoices.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ParentVoices Oakland<\/a> to keep major healthcare services at Children\u2019s Hospital Oakland (CHO) where children and their families will able to access them without facing additional hurdles. <\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">Over the past year, UCSF has moved bone marrow treatments and interventional radiology from CHO across the bay to San Francisco\u2014creating dangerous barriers for immunocompromised children. The shift has created new barriers and risks for families whose children are battling cancer, sickle cell anemia and other serious illnesses\u2014forcing them to travel across the Bay for care that was previously available in Oakland. <\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\u201cDozens of families who used to get care here in Oakland are being told to go back and forth across the Bay when their child&#8217;s immune system is at its most fragile. These kids and families don\u2019t need additional obstacles to being healthy and safe.
