“I love Clifford with all my heart. The loss of him is a crushing anguish.” A Northern California family is grieving the loss of one loved one and holding onto memories of three others after the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Wednesday for survivors.<\/p>\n
Longtime sailor Mike Peterson has been gathering information from the boating community since the tragedy.<\/p>\n
“And it was parked over on an end-tie here, the passengers embarked and the plan was for them to disembark right here,” he said.<\/p>\n
We now know from emergency officials that 20 people and a dog went out on a memorial cruise aboard the Volare, registered out of Stockton and owned by political consultant John Boisa.<\/p>\n
RELATED: Search suspended for 3 missing after boat with family spreading ashes capsizes on San Francisco Bay<\/a><\/p>\n More than 24 hours after a ship carrying 20 people went down in the San Francisco Bay, investigators still don’t know exactly where it is and while finding the boat is one challenge, bringing it to the surface again is another.<\/p>\n “This is a boat that’s been tested, proven on the water, ocean-going,” Peterson said. “And it’s the sort of boat you would expect that, because of its quality and being so seaworthy, this sort of thing shouldn’t have happened.”<\/p>\n Online boat trackers show the Volare left West Harbor around 10 a.m. Tuesday, passed beneath the Golden Gate Bridge and circled into the ocean, came back through and docked at Angel Island’s Ayala Cove around noon. The tracker shows the boat stayed there for three hours and then headed back toward the docks before catastrophe hit just past Alcatraz Island.<\/p>\n Coast Guard Dispatch radioed, “The Coast Guard has received a report of a capsized vessel approximately one-fourth mile west of Alcatraz Island.”<\/p>\n
