VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Two separate pipe problems triggered flooding in Venice on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The first turned out to be a leak from someone’s property. Another leak was caused by a water main break a few blocks from the Venice Canals.<\/p>\n
Video shows water pouring into the alley near Grand Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power says emergency repairs are underway, and they are handling the cleanup.<\/p>\n
The flooding caused damage to underground parking structures, and more than 60 customers had their water service affected.<\/p>\n
“There’s 5 to 6 feet of water in the basement rooms, and when we called DWP to let them know that there was a problem, they didn’t show up for two and a half hours, and that was where all the damage happened,” said contractor Ron Venveniste. “This is what happens when your infrastructure gets to be 110 years old, and they are not doing maintenance. They are not being proactive, they are being reactive.”<\/p>\n
The cause of the leaks is under investigation.<\/p>\n
The Venice flooding comes on the heels of a massive water main break in West Hollywood this week, which spewed millions of gallons of water and flooded busy streets on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Crews worked inside a massive trench on Saturday, replacing the water main that burst and sent an estimated 17 million gallons of water rushing through West Hollywood, flooding garages, pushing cars down the street, shifting massive chunks of asphalt and concrete slab and damaging several businesses.<\/p>\n
