BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A pedestrian was killed after getting out of a vehicle on Union Avenue and was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle late Saturday night.<\/p>\n
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at around 10:45 p.m., officers were called to the 3600 block of Union Avenue regarding a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian down in the roadway suffering severe injuries.<\/p>\n
Medical aid arrived and took the pedestrian to a hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n
Police said the driver of the vehicle involved did not stop and drove away from the scene immediately after the crash.<\/p>\n
According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian got out of a vehicle that had stopped in the number one lane of northbound Union Avenue when they were struck by the involved vehicle, which was travelling north in the number two lane.<\/p>\n
Police said speed is not believed to have been a factor in the crash. It is unknown whether intoxication may have been involved, according to police.<\/p>\n
