Instead, the couple placed AI-generated images<\/a> of menu items in the window as placeholder marketing while they scrambled to finish their setup. The food hadn’t even had a chance to speak for itself before the window became the whole conversation.<\/p>\n

When the Window Lies Before the Kitchen Even Opens<\/p>\n

A fast turnaround and a placeholder decision turned a neighborhood newcomer into a Reddit punchline.<\/p>\n

Lyndsey Lozano said<\/a> the turnaround from Citrus Club was extremely fast, and the couple hadn’t even put up a proper sign yet. The AI images were meant to fill a gap. The internet filled a different one. A June 30 Reddit post titled “Yum, slop” racked up more than 670 upvotes. Commenters compared the generated food photos to a:<\/p>\n

“the mutated cordyceps from The Last of Us”<\/p>\n

The backlash wasn’t philosophical opposition to AI. Those images just looked deeply, unmistakably wrong.<\/p>\n

The sequence moved quickly:<\/p>\n

The Reddit post landed June 30 with 670-plus upvotes and widespread mockery.<\/p>\n

Graffiti appeared on the awning July 2, with cleanup estimated at more than $700.<\/p>\n

By July 6 the AI images were gone \u2014 replaced with LED lights and an actual pastry display.<\/p>\n

Show the Real Food, Lose the Algorithm<\/p>\n

The Lozanos’ recovery strategy was almost aggressively simple \u2014 put real pastries in the window.<\/p>\n

Once the AI images<\/a> came down on July 6, the couple swapped in LED lighting and cases of actual baked goods. Business reportedly improved. They hired cooks. A smashburger is incoming. Community events \u2014 pasta-making classes, paint-and-sip nights \u2014 are on the calendar. The Lozanos treated this like a crisis pivot: cut the liability, show something real, and move fast. A $700 graffiti cleanup bill became the price of a marketing education.<\/p>\n

The public isn’t rejecting AI running<\/a> your inventory or optimizing your schedule. Nobody cares about that.
