The California city leader<\/a> caught allegedly trying to steal a yacht<\/a> after bizarrely ransacking the vessel spoke only months prior to the incident about needing less stress in her life during a farewell speech at her former job.<\/p>\n

Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes, 53, was arrested early Saturday<\/a> after authorities said she boarded multiple vessels at a local marina \u2014 including a 66-foot yacht investigators believe said may have attempted to take.<\/p>\n

Forbes had only been in job for three weeks after previously serving as the Port of San Francisco\u2019s executive director for nine years.<\/p>\n

Forbes announced she was leaving her last job, noting she was \u201ctired\u201d of being in charge of such a large city. Port of San Francisco<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, it\u2019s time for me to go. I have been the director for nine years,\u201d she said during a meeting of the Port Commission. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tired. I want a job with fewer than 280 employees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to run a port city anymore. But I sure did these last nine years,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Later, she added that her decision to move on was not an \u201ceasy decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to pull myself out because I needed to make a change,\u201d Forbes explained. \u201cAnd sometimes that\u2019s really hard to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her final speech in December<\/a>, she said she was stepping down \u201cwith profound gratitude and complete confidence in the Port\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe waterfront is in capable, committed and courageous hands. The Port of San Francisco will always be part of who I am. I was born in the city. \u201c<\/p>\n

A family spokesperson said Forbes was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the yacht incident.<\/p>\n

The owner of the boat, Andy Cunningham, said Forbes ransacked clothes, ate food and got through four bottles of wine on board the vessel.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe took all my clothes and tried them on. They were inside out,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was a jar of maraschino cherries she dumped into a shoebox. She had drunk a lot of alcohol, four bottles of our wine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days before the incident, a missing-person report was filed for Forbes, according to the Marin County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Forbes was in the midst of a divorce from Angela Calvillo (pictured), clerk of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. sf.gov<\/p>\n

Family spokesperson Sam Singer said Forbes has also been going through a divorce from her longtime partner Angela Calvillo, who is the clerk of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.<\/p>\n

He added that Forbes lives on a houseboat near the marina and suggested her condition may have contributed to the alleged incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe does, in fact, live on a houseboat,\u201d Singer explained. \u201cIn her mental health crisis, she may have believed she was on her houseboat but didn\u2019t recognize it wasn\u2019t hers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forbes remains in custody at the Marin County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.<\/p>\n
