{"id":407137,"date":"2026-07-21T22:27:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T22:27:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/407137\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T22:27:06","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T22:27:06","slug":"sacramento-k-street-mass-shooting-trial-ends-in-mistrial-after-jury-deadlocks-da-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/407137\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento K Street mass shooting trial ends in mistrial after jury deadlocks, DA says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mistrial was declared Tuesday in the trial of two men accused in Sacramento&#8217;s 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sacramento\/news\/downtown-sacramento-shooting-what-we-know-so-far\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">K Street mass shooting<\/a> after jurors failed to reach a verdict.<\/p>\n<p>The Sacramento County District Attorney&#8217;s Office said prosecutors will soon decide whether to retry Dandrae Martin and Mtula Payton.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, the jury was unable to reach a verdict, and a mistrial has been declared,&#8221; the DA&#8217;s office said in a statement. &#8220;We will make a decision in the near future as to our next steps, which will include a decision to retry the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The office declined further comment because the case remains pending.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sacramento\/news\/jury-deadlocks-1st-degree-murder-chargessacramento-k-street-mass-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jurors had previously deadlocked<\/a>\u00a0on first-degree murder charges before continuing deliberations on lesser second-degree murder charges.
