Nearly 30 years after bringing “Matilda” to the screen, Danny DeVito is returning to Roald Dahl’s world, this time with the San Francisco Symphony.

DeVito visits Davies Symphony Hall on Saturday-Sunday, July 25-26, to narrate his 1996 adaptation of the classic novel. The film, which DeVito directed and starred in, follows an academically gifted girl who develops psychokinetic powers to fight her evil headmistress.

Composer David Newman, whose 100-plus credits include “The Sandlot” (1993) and the Oscar-nominated score for “Anastasia” (1997), will conduct the Symphony in a live performance of his “Matilda” score during both screenings.
