Actress Angelina Jolie<\/a>‘s lingering ties to ex-husband Brad Pitt<\/a> have officially been severed after their youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, turned 18\u2014bringing the former couple’s custody agreement<\/a> to an end.<\/p>\n

It marks a significant milestone not just for the teenagers, but for their mother, too. Jolie has made no secret of her desire to leave the U.S.<\/a>, something that she said she was unable to do while she was still bound by the custody conditions set in place in the wake of her divorce from Pitt.<\/p>\n

“I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a\u00a0divorce, but as soon as [the twins] are 18, I\u2019ll be able to leave,” she told The Hollywood Reporter about her reasons for remaining in Los Angeles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jolie, 51, went on to reveal her desire to spend more time abroad, particularly in Cambodia, where her eldest son, Maddox, is from, and where she has owned a home for years. <\/p>\n

“When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles] I\u2019ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I\u2019ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”<\/p>\n

While Jolie is now legally free to move abroad, there is one rather large hurdle that she must climb before she is able to quit the city for good: the sale of her historic Los Angeles mansion.<\/p>\n

The “Tomb Raider” star put the property on the market for $29.9 million in early May\u2014more than two months before Vivienne and Knox’s birthday on July 12\u2014having purchased it for $24.7 million in 2017, less than a year after she filed for divorce from Pitt. <\/p>\n

Previously owned by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, for whom it is now named, the property features six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, and has served as Jolie’s primary residence since she bought it. <\/p>\n

The property\u2014which sits on nearly 2 lush acres\u2014is listed with\u00a0Jon Grauman\u00a0of Resident Group and\u00a0Ernie Carswell\u00a0of Sotheby’s International Realty.<\/p>\n

Jolie’s name is not mentioned in the listing, which went live on May 4. However, the property’s illustrious history features prominently in the description, which described the home as an “iconic compound.”<\/p>\n

“The legendary Cecil B. DeMille estate is now discretely being offered, marking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history\u2014an iconic compound from which Hollywood’s future was shaped, and where Mr. DeMille helped define the industry as the entertainment capital\u00a0of the world,” it reads.<\/p>\n

“Originally conceived in 1913 by architect\u00a0B. Cooper Corbett, the high-walled estate stands as a cornerstone of Hollywood’s architectural and cultural legacy. Acquired by Cecil B. DeMille in 1916, it quickly evolved into a sanctuary of cinematic innovation and social grandeur.”<\/p>\n

The listing notes that the existing property was expanded by DeMille in 1920, when he acquired a neighboring abode that was once home to\u00a0Charlie Chaplin\u2014and then set about connecting the two dwellings “by way of a graceful glass corridor.”<\/p>\n

“This union of artistry and vision transformed the property into a singular masterpiece, embodying the glamour and creative force of Hollywood’s Golden Age,” the description goes on.<\/p>\n

While much is made of the home’s impressive Hollywood history, the listing features little to no information about the changes that Jolie has made to the dwelling since moving in nearly 10 years ago\u2014and it features no interior images of the property, likely in a bid to protect the actress’s privacy.<\/p>\n

Among the upscale amenities that are mentioned in the description are a fitness studio, a tea house, a guest house studio with its own living room, fireplace, and private gated entry, and a pool house, as well as a “separate garage with security station.”<\/p>\n

“Perched at the highest point within the prestigious Laughlin Park enclave, the grounds command sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory\u2014adding further romance to this timeless legacy estate,” the description adds.<\/p>\n

DeMille purchased the original property for just $27,893 in 1916\u2014and he lived at the estate until his death in 1959. Since then, the extraordinary compound has changed hands on just a few occasions, with records showing that it was sold for just $1.5 million in 1990 and remained with that same buyer for nearly 30 years before it was purchased by Jolie.<\/p>\n

When the actress bought the property, it had just undergone an extensive six-year renovation, which included the grounds and the swimming pool.<\/p>\n

“A newer classic old Hollywood style pool with arched fountains, surrounded by rolling lawns, specimen trees, rose gardens and dramatic views from the Observatory to Ocean sunsets,” the original listing description said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 11,000-square-foot abode has now been on the market for 79 days, which is above the median for 52-day median for all listed homes in Los Angeles but it is close to the benchmark for properties in the luxury market. <\/p>\n

According to Realtor.com\u00ae data, the median number of days spent on the market by properties in the 99th percentile in the L.A. metro, which are homes listed for $21,977,888 and above, is 77. <\/p>\n

However, there are many celebrity-owned home that have spent far more time on the market before finding a buyer\u2014including Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marital home in Beverly Hills and the iconic “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” mansion that was listed by Kris Jenner in February 2025. <\/p>\n

While Jolie has yet to offload her home, that may not stop her from leaving Los Angeles in the meantime\u2014particularly given that she already has a residence in Cambodia where she can live. <\/p>\n

Jolie has not commented on the property’s listing\u2014and it is unclear whether she plans to offload her\u00a0other\u00a0U.S. dwellings ahead of her reported move abroad, although she has previously revealed that her apartment in\u00a0New York<\/a>\u00a0City is currently being used as a “crash pad” by her children.<\/p>\n

It’s also not known whether Jolie or any of her kids are currently residing in the historic Los Angeles dwelling; both of her twins attended high school in the city, but may well end up leaving soon in order to attend college. <\/p>\n

Jolie’s kids are all notoriously private and no information has been shared by the actress about their future plans. <\/p>\n

Soon after the twins celebrated their 18th birthday, however, Vivienne took another bold step towards ending her own connection to her famous father, filing paperwork in the Los Angeles Superior Court on July 20 to legally remove “Pitt” from her name. <\/p>\n

According to Page Six<\/a>, Vivienne has asked that her name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Pitt\u2014keeping the middle moniker that was given to her in honor of her late maternal grandmother, who died in 2007. <\/p>\n

The move sees the teenager following in the footsteps of her older sibling, Shiloh, 20, who successfully filed a similar petition in May 2024, shortly after she turned 18. Maddox, 24, also petitioned a court to change his name in May of this year, while Zahara made the same move in June. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile Vivienne’s brother, Knox, was revealed to have used the name Knox Jolie on his high school diploma when he graduated earlier this summer, however he is not known to have filed a legal petition to official change his moniker. <\/p>\n
