Earlier this month, Broadway Sacramento<\/a> announced the cast for its upcoming production of \u201cHairspray,\u201d featuring a major name in the drag world.<\/p>\n

\u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race All Stars\u201d winner Ginger Minj will play one of the musical\u2019s leading roles: Edna Turnblad, the mother of protagonist Tracy Turnblad.<\/p>\n

The leading role is rooted in drag culture \u2014 iconic drag queen Divine first played Edna Turnblad in the original 1988 \u201cHairspray\u201d film. However, the role was most famously played by actor John Travolta in the 2007 version of the film.<\/p>\n

Minj, whose real name is Joshua Allen Eads, will make her Broadway at Music Circus debut Aug. 21, and the musical runs through Aug. 30 at the UC Davis Health Pavilion, 1419 H St. in Sacramento.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the 12-show production are available on the Broadway Sacramento<\/a> website, starting at $50 plus fees.<\/p>\n
