Since launching in 2010, CicLAvia has hosted 67 open-street events, temporarily closing major roadways to vehicle traffic so residents and visitors can safely bike, walk, skate and explore neighborhoods without cars. The events have become a signature community tradition, drawing thousands of participants while promoting active transportation and local businesses. However, Metro officials are now looking for ways to finance Olympic-related activities, including fan zones planned throughout the region during the Summer Games. Metro\u2019s Planning and Programming Committee has already approved a proposal to redirect funding away from CicLAvia and toward those Olympic efforts. Supporters of CicLAvia warn the move could threaten the future of the popular program.
