SALINAS, Calif. —

California is turning to advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, drones, and satellites, to enhance wildfire detection and response efforts.

Governor Gavin Newsom and Cal Fire showcased these innovations this week, emphasizing their potential to improve safety and efficiency in combating wildfires.

“As the technology advances, it’s important that we continue to advance with that technology,” Newsom said.

The new tools include autonomous drones that will fly in packs of five, each weighing around 400 pounds and carrying approximately 20 gallons of water. These drones are designed to work alongside firefighters.

“We have people coming from all over the United States and around the globe to look at what California is doing in orbit, in the air, and on the ground,” Newsom said.

Earlier this month, California launched three new fire satellites into orbit as part of the Earth Fire Alliance program. Officials said the satellites will help detect wildfires from space with high precision.

“We’ll be able to see hotspots, hot fires, down to about the size of a two-car garage,” an official said.

The state is also integrating AI models into public tools like Alert California, which can detect fires and identify hazards more quickly.

“So across the spectrum, real progress has been made, unprecedented investments. But technology has been at the forefront,” Newsom said.

While these tools won’t replace crews on the ground, they are expected to provide firefighters with a competitive edge in the fight against wildfires.

California introduces AI, drones, and satellites to fight wildfires SALINAS, Calif. — California is turning to advanced technology,…

[6
164264,2007,6980,7,9,8,44508,4330,2929,7775,3310,7758,3290,3335,25073,41473,150562
post-409995","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-california","tag-advanced-technology","tag-ai","tag-cal-fire","tag-california","tag-california-headlines","tag-california-news","tag-drone","tag-firefighter","tag-governor-gavin-newsom","tag-ground","tag-innovation","tag-new-tool","tag-newsom","tag-official","tag-orbit","tag-satellite","tag-wildfire-detection
["GET
