Two roommates in San Francisco had never expected a family of raccoons would move in with them without signing a lease\u2026 but that\u2019s exactly what happened.<\/p>\n
Isaac Brodkin and his roommate heard scratching noises for months coming from inside the walls of Brodkin\u2019s room.<\/p>\n
The duo quickly notified the property managers\u2014Kenney & Everest Real Estate of San Francisco\u2014who sent an inspector to investigate the matter. The inspector confirmed that the noisemakers were raccoons<\/a>.<\/p>\n A rental apartment in San Francisco became home for a pregnant raccoon in April this year. Brodkin\u2019s roommate managed to get Animal Control to come to the apartment, where officers cracked open the wall and found a mother raccoon peeping out through the opening.<\/p>\n The mother raccoon had entered an exterior wall opening in their building, a former Zen Buddhist temple<\/a>. After giving birth inside the wall, she managed to break through and enter Brodkin\u2019s bedroom.<\/p>\n A mother raccoon with her newborn child was found inside the wall. ABC 7<\/p>\n Animal Control officials investigated the inside of the walls with torch lights to find the mother raccoon. Isaac Brodkin<\/p>\n \u201cOh, there\u2019s one. Hi there. Did I disturb you?\u201d one officer is heard saying as the mother raccoon stuck her face through the hole. \u201cThat\u2019s the mommy. Hi, Mommy,\u201d two Animal Control officers could be heard saying in a video, ABC News reported.<\/p>\n Brodkin and his roommate decided to leave the apartment in June after they could no longer tolerate living there in fear. \u201cThe worst thing that could happen is the animal breaks through the ceiling and, like, drops on my head while I\u2019m sleeping,\u201d Brodkin told the news outlet.<\/p>\n It was a critter conundrum that ended in heartbreak. An exterminator called<\/a> to remove the raccoons from the apartment made a grim discovery: the mother had fallen and become trapped, failing to survive the ordeal.<\/p>\n \u201cI was sad about that because I felt like I\u2019d gotten to know this family by living so close for two months,\u201d resident Brodkin said.
