The fight is on: We have concerns that Chancellor Garc\u00eda\u2019s recent approval of the $144 million 0% interest state loan will be misspent<\/a>. Time and again, we have asked for this money to be used specifically to restore programs and premature job cuts. However, in an email to all faculty, Garc\u00eda stated that these funds will be used to provide one-time bonuses for CSU employees. We know that this short-term minimal amount is shortchanging<\/a> faculty! A \u201cone-time bonus\u201d is not a substitute for fair compensation. It does not go to base salary, nor does it change the pension basis. Our labor sustains our university and we have devoted countless hours to our students and our programs\u2014we deserve fair and just compensation.<\/p>\n When managers offer one-time bonuses, it is often a tactic for refusing real salary increases at the bargaining table. When the boss offers you a pizza party, hold on to your wallet! Further, the Chancellor is trying to communicate directly with faculty members about their pay rather than through our CFA Bargaining Team.<\/a> This behavior is shameful and attempts to weaken our ability to collectively bargain fairly. It shows she has little regard for the countless lives she has negatively impacted with her actions. Many of our friends and colleagues\u2019 livelihoods were cut short without warning, and students\u2019 education and futures were deeply affected by unnecessary program closures.<\/p>\n Now the chancellor wishes to buy our silence.<\/p>\n We won\u2019t let her. The chancellor and the CSU trustees must remember to do what\u2019s right for CSU stakeholders. They must prioritize instruction, restore jobs, and let the bargaining table be the space where we discuss faculty salaries.<\/p>\n We are less than two weeks away from the meeting on November 18, and our workplace will not organize for us.
