An alleged cell leader for the Arellano F\u00e9lix Organization, a Baja California-based drug cartel, has been arrested in the southeastern Mexican state of Yucat\u00e1n, officials said.<\/p>\n
The arrest of H\u00e9ctor Manuel Gil Garc\u00eda, also known as El Kado, was first announced Thursday by Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar Garc\u00eda Harfuch in a social media post,<\/a>\u00a0saying it was made possible through an exchange of information with U.S. agencies. He referred to Gil Garc\u00eda as a \u201cpriority target.\u201d<\/p>\n Although he did not name the criminal organization, Garc\u00eda Harfuch said Gil Garc\u00eda was a leader of a group \u201cresponsible for coordinating drug trafficking operations to the United States, as well as carrying out extortion, homicides, and other violent acts in Baja California.\u201d<\/p>\n Several Mexican news outlets<\/a> have reported that Gil Garc\u00eda is believed to be a leader<\/a> of an Arellano F\u00e9lix Organization cell.
