A transcript from an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by former JSerra girls\u2019 basketball coach Chyanne Butler indicates the school could be facing a Southern Section investigation for CIF rules violations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware of the transcripts and the trial,\u201d Southern Section spokesman Thom Simmons said Friday.<\/p>\n
JSerra has \u201cno comment\u201d while the case continues, a school spokesman said.<\/p>\n
Butler alleged employment discrimination after being dismissed in January 2025. A jury trial earlier this year resulted in a hung jury over an allegation of gender discrimination and a new trial is scheduled for Aug. 24 in Orange County Superior Court with Judge David O Carter presiding. Allegations of race discrimination and a sexual harassment claim against an assistant coach were dismissed.<\/p>\n
JSerra has not self-reported any CIF violations even though in the first trial, an assistant coach testified under oath about recruiting a player from another school and then providing family expenses including \u201cmedical insurance, medical bills, groceries, toiletries, incidentals, basketball shoes.\u201d <\/p>\n
That would be a violation of CIF rules.<\/p>\n
The Southern Section usually sends allegations of rules violations back to the school to investigate.<\/p>\n
