JOS\u00c9 LUIS VILLEGAS                                                                            jvillegas@sacbee.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>Families of the women killed in the April 2022 barrage of gunfire on downtown Sacramento\u2019s K Street <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/article316603760.html\">demanded justice from a system they said failed them when jurors failed to reach verdicts<\/a> on the charges stemming from their slayings. Johntaya Alexander, 21; Yamile Martinez, 21; and Melinda Davis, 57, died within seconds after the shooting started, caught in a barrage of bullets at 10th and K streets.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors argued the three women were <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article316234081.html\">killed in the crossfire of rival gangs\u2019 gun battle<\/a> in the middle of the bustling intersection as nightclubs closed early on April 3. Defense attorneys argued that an armed Payton and Martin fired their weapons <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article315481794.html\">in self-defense<\/a> after the spontaneous shooting erupted in the area. PAUL KITAGAKI JR.                                                                            pkitagaki@sacbee.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>Three of the dead \u2014 Sergio Harris, 38; Joshua Hoye-Lucchessi, 32; and Davazia Turner, 29 \u2014 were alleged by prosecutors to have been involved in the shootout.<\/p>\n<p>Jurors convicted the pair of being felons in possession of a firearm and found true allegations of prior felony convictions.<\/p>\n<p>The case is scheduled to return to Sacramento Superior Court in October.
