Instagram\/@adjoro<\/p>\n<p>He also captured both of the rescues on camera and expressed relief to CBS News. The two swimmers were rescued by two lifeguards from the Los Angeles County Fire Department who encountered the strong waves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of the lifeguards Pono Barnes watched Rose\u2019s video and said the swimmer remained calm, which is exactly what lifeguards want people to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was an awesome display of that beach patron or that beachgoer staying calm,\u201d Barnes told CBS News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Overall, it was a busy weekend for lifeguards, with ocean rescues reaching into the thousands from Friday through Sunday. Barnes told the station that\u00a0 the numbers aren\u2019t surprising considering the conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have that human element paired with some significant swell in the water,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have some hazardous conditions and rip currents are stronger and intensified by that swell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40105229\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2026-widespread-significant-heat-wave-135691398.jpg\" alt=\"Three surfers ride waves at Venice Beach with a pier in the background.\" class=\"wp-image-40105229\"  \/>Surfers close to Venice Beach Pier. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Lifeguards are also urging beachgoers not to rush into the water if they see someone struggling, warning that doing so could turn them into a second victim. <\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re caught in a rip current, lifeguards also advise that swimmers don\u2019t try to swim straight back to shore.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they recommend to stay calm, float if you can, and swim parallel to the shoreline until you\u2019re out of the current before heading back to the beach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two swimmers were swept away from shore by dangerous rip currents near the Venice Pier on Saturday.
