The school board plans to discuss the agreement during a special meeting later this week.

The district has been facing down a $170 million deficit. In May, Fitch Ratings downgraded the district’s credit rating to junk status, signaling SCUSD is viewed as a riskier investment.

As KCRA 3 previously reported, if the district decides to request state assistance before the next school year, it must do so before the end of the legislative session in August due to delays between requesting and receiving funds.

Under state receivership, the county superintendent would assume all powers and duties of the district board, and the district superintendent would be dismissed.

See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

–KCRA 3’s Daniel Macht contributed to this report.

Sacramento teachers union says deal could provide $100 million in budget relief for SCUSD SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The…

[32
4760,162684,3557,162682,2076,17492,161545,141644,473,6780,154592,162683,19349,161543,121,123,122,68403,14854,33434,141643
post-415195","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sacramento","tag-ad","tag-advertise","tag-am","tag-average-gas-price","tag-budget","tag-california-county","tag-collection-term","tag-email-weather-search","tag-kcra","tag-map","tag-menu-subscribe","tag-more-breaking-news","tag-page","tag-privacy-notice-notice","tag-sacramento","tag-sacramento-headlines","tag-sacramento-news","tag-scta","tag-scusd","tag-teachers-union","tag-use-nextfre
["GET
