With the help of a helicopter, responding firefighters found the man clinging to the edge of a canal.

The man had been swept downstream after jumping in to rescue his dog. He was clutching the animal.

After gaining access to the canal, firefighters used a ground ladder to reach the victim and get them to safety.

The man was treated at a hospital. The dog was uninjured.

“Fast-moving water, steep concrete walls, and strong currents can quickly into a life-threatening emergency.
