Construction has been brisk; the SGVCOG broke ground <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/la.streetsblog.org\/2023\/07\/01\/metro-caltrans-and-sgv-council-break-ground-on-57-60-freeways-widening\">three summers ago<\/a> in 2023. Construction of the Metro\/Caltrans project is managed by the SGV COG.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major elements of the project (the half-mile eastbound 60 bypass, the mile-long Grand Avenue flyover off-ramp, and the widening of Grand\u2019s overpass to 8 lanes) have been growing steadily for commuters to see while passing through the busy interchange.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COG spokesperson Ricky Choi touts progress on the 60 Freeway\u2019s bypass viaduct bridge, which he says will \u201csignificantly reduce congestion and improve safety by allowing motorists to bypass the current State Route 57\/60 weaving area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/la.streetsblog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2022\/04\/5760map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1003\" height=\"462\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/5760map.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-171393\"  \/><\/a>57\/60 Freeway widening project diagram \u2013 via Metro fact sheet (diagram omits project adding one new eastbound general purpose lane)<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/la.streetsblog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-29-123124.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"565\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-29-123124.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-227593\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The half-mile long bypass has almost reached Diamond Bar Boulevard. Now, Choi is able to expound on that work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn the Grand Avenue Bridge, crews have successfully completed the stem, soffit [underside], and sidewalls, and are currently placing rebar and building forms for the new bridge deck,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choi tells SBLA that the next major milestone for the bridge will be shifting traffic onto the eastern half of it, in order to begin reconstruction of the western half. A timeline on this is to be determined with the contractor.
