BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A 33-year-old woman was arrested last week for allegedly vandalizing downtown Bakersfield, which included the Kern County Veterans Memorial and the Department of Human Services. Police reported that the repairs cost several thousand dollars.<\/p>\n

On July 23, 2026, Bakersfield Police Department Impact Unit officers arrested Marina Leanne Smith, 33, for allegedly vandalizing two different locations. Smith was on an active parole violation warrant. Officials authorized a bail enhancement to prevent her from being released with a promise to appear. She was booked into Lerdo Jail.<\/p>\n

Police said that on July 5, 2026, patrol officers responded to the Kern County Veterans Memorial, located at 515 Truxtun Avenue, in response to a report of vandalism earlier that morning.<\/p>\n

Smith was seen on video surveillance using a metal object to shatter the decorative glass sculpture at the center of the outdoor memorial, said officials. Officers recognized Smith from previous arrests.<\/p>\n

On the same day, BPD also received a report of vandalism at the Department of Human Services Building, located at 100 East California Avenue. Again, Smith was seen on video using a metal object to shatter glass at the building that same afternoon. Both incidents caused several thousand dollars in damage, said police.<\/p>\n

Smith’s arrest records show that she was charged with felony vandalism and burglary at three other downtown locations in July:<\/p>\n
