As July ends, let freedom ring at Beale Memorial Library.<\/p>\n
In celebration of the United States\u2019 semiquincentennial, the library will host its America\u2019s 250th Celebration Concert, a joint performance featuring Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra musicians and the Bakersfield College Choir, on Friday.<\/p>\n
This patriotic concert will begin with opening remarks from Nick Gonzalez, executive director of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, and Bruce Wearda of the Kern chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to open with him (Wearda) talking about the establishment of the color guard and the flag ceremony, where it originated, why it originated and why it still is done to this day,\u201d said Lynne Kemmer, local history and workforce librarian.<\/p>\n
SAR members will then conduct the ceremonial presentation.<\/p>\n
A quartet of symphony musicians will offer a program set to include \u201cAmerica the Beautiful,\u201d \u201cBattle Hymn of the Republic,\u201d \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner,\u201d \u201cThe Stars and Stripes Forever\u201d and \u201cThe Washington Post March.\u201d After a brief intermission, the Bakersfield College Choir, led by choral director Jennifer Garrett, will perform.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s set list will consist of \u201cSaints Bound for Heaven,\u201d \u201cIt is Well With my Soul,\u201d \u201cUnclouded Day,\u201d \u201cEloyi,\u201d \u201cWitness\u201d and \u201cAmerica the Beautiful \u2014 Epilogue.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the music, SAR members will also read excerpts of the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n
The concert will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the auditorium of the library, 701 Truxtun Ave.<\/p>\n
