Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Long Beach Transit bus last week in downtown Long Beach. The bus driver was making a left turn and struck the man who was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk, according to the Long Beach Police Department.<\/p>\n
The crash happened at about 1:05 p.m. on July 21 in the 400 block of Golden Shore, a small stretch of road south of Ocean Boulevard and near the parking lot for the Catalina Express, according to Long Beach police.<\/p>\n
Police said the bus driver was making a left turn onto an access road when he struck the man in his 60s.<\/p>\n
Good Samaritans rendered aid before paramedics arrived and took the victim to a hospital in critical condition. He died two days later, police said. His name and age were withheld pending family notification.<\/p>\n
The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.<\/p>\n
Police do not believe that speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the crash.<\/p>\n
This was the 26th fatal crash of the year in Long Beach and the 14th involving a pedestrian. At this time last year, the city had recorded 28 fatal crashes, with 11 involving pedestrians.
