The County is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella linked to Ramona Family Naturals Market. The County has recorded 13 confirmed and probable cases since June 21, 2026.\u202f<\/p>\n
Those who became ill range in age from 27 to 60, and four people were hospitalized. Investigators believe the outbreak is connected to mayonnaise made with raw, unpasteurized eggs. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0market\u2019s\u00a0owner\u00a0has\u00a0been working closely with the County\u2019s\u00a0Environmental Health and Quality and Public Health Services\u00a0and\u00a0has\u00a0stopped\u00a0using raw,\u00a0unpasteurized\u00a0eggs\u00a0in\u00a0all\u00a0its\u00a0food products.\u00a0\u202fIn general, the public should avoid consuming raw eggs\u00a0because they carry\u00a0risk of\u00a0Salmonella.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
This strain\u00a0is not linked\u00a0to the\u00a0Salmonella outbreak linked to shell eggs in the Midwest<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Salmonella\u00a0infection, or\u00a0salmonellosis, can cause\u00a0nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that might have blood or mucous, abdominal cramps and fever.\u00a0Symptoms\u00a0typically\u00a0begin 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food\u00a0and\u00a0can last\u00a0four\u00a0to\u00a0seven\u00a0days. Most people recover without treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n Those\u00a0at higher\u00a0risk for\u00a0complications\u00a0include children younger than 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and\u00a0those\u00a0who are immunocompromised.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n People who\u00a0ate food\u00a0purchased\u00a0at\u00a0Ramona Family Naturals Market\u00a0or its deli\u00a0and develop\u00a0symptoms\u00a0should contact\u00a0their\u00a0healthcare provider.\u202f\u202f\u202fThe mayo was used in chicken salads and in the Ramona Red Sauce, which is used on sandwiches and is also sold by the bottle.
