KERN COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) \u2014 Dramatic rescue video released by California authorities shows the moment first responders located and saved a woman who was swept downstream and became trapped beneath a rocky cliff in the Kern River.<\/p>\n

The rescue happened Saturday after a bystander alerted a Kern County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> park ranger that a woman had fallen into the river and was being carried away by the swift current.<\/p>\n

Video from the sheriff’s Air Support Unit shows a helicopter crew searching the river before spotting the woman clinging to the underside of a rock while partially submerged in the rushing water. From the air, deputies directed firefighters on the ground to her location.<\/p>\n

Rescuers threw the woman a life jacket before using a rope system to pull her to safety from the dangerous current. She was then evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Authorities have not released details about her condition.<\/p>\n

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said the rescue required a coordinated response involving its Air Support Unit, park rangers and the Kern County Fire Department.<\/p>\n

The Kern River is considered one of California’s most dangerous waterways, with powerful currents, icy water and hidden hazards that have contributed to numerous drownings over the years. Officials routinely warn visitors to wear life jackets and avoid underestimating the river’s strength.<\/p>\n

Authorities credited the quick actions of the bystander, helicopter crew and rescue teams with helping save the woman’s life.<\/p>\n
