What to Know”Power Up! Games in Concert”Marina del Rey Summer SymphonySaturday, Aug. 17 to 8:30 p.m.Burton Chace ParkMarina del ReyReserve your free spot at this page; finding a “festival-style” place to sit around the park is first come, first served

Pretty much every moment spent in a video game comes with a snazzy sound, a fanciful flow, or a musical flourish that indicates a player is in right in the dramatic middle of a major adventure.

Selling stuff you picked up but don’t need at the local blacksmith in your fantasy game? Music makes the errand cinematic. Casting a new spell? A mysterious tune adds to the enchantment. Landing with your crew on a new planet? You bet: There will be a cosmic song upping the energy.

The Marina del Rey Summer Symphony is paying powerful homage to the soundtracks that heighten the flavor and fun of video games at a free concert on the first evening of August.

No controller is needed to attend; rather, leap, somersault, fly, and ride your trusty familiar, be it an ensorcelled bear or werewolf, in the direction of Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey.

“Power Up! Games in Concert” will pay tribute to the soundtracks of some iconic games during the 90-minute show; listen for World of Warcraft, Sword of the Sea, and Medal of Honor to receive their symphonic due.

“Whether you’re a lifelong gamer or simply love great music, this thrilling concert promises an evening of adventure, heroism, and unforgettable melodies,” is the stirring word on the event’s site.

Entry is complimentary, but you’ll want to reserve your spot at this site.

Keep in mind that this is an outdoor park venue, and finding a place to plunk down will be very much a “first come, first served” sort of thing.

You can tie arriving at the concert in a timely manner to how efficiently you move through a game: You don’t delay crossing the huge chasm, entering the castle, or passing through a foreboding gate when you need to move forward in a swift manner.

So prepare to level up: Find out more about this musical foray into the realm of video games, including some of the soundtracks on the setlist, as well as attending the sure-to-be-popular event, here.
