Photo: Madeline Shannon \/ The Center Square.<\/p>\n<p>Starting Friday, the 38th day of the shutdown, flights up and down the West Coast are expected to be delayed, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_b39e4800-7571-4cfd-9d1f-8b587353007c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the FAA released a list of the airports that will be affected by <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/transportation\/5591989-government-shutdown-flight-disruptions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reduced flights<\/a>. They include 12 major ones in the West, stretching from California north to Alaska, west to Hawaii and east to Colorado and Texas.<\/p>\n<p>FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford, announced Wednesday the FAA will <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/5588539-potential-airspace-closure-shutdown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reduce flights<\/a> by a total of 10% in what he called <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/5588539-potential-airspace-closure-shutdown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">40 \u201chigh-volume markets\u201d<\/a> throughout the United States. Photo:\u00a0Madeline Shannon \/ The Center Square.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers flying out of San Francisco International on Thursday told The Center Square they were concerned about the travel plans of friends and family, despite their own good timing in traveling before the reductions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really worried about our friends traveling,\u201d said Della Shapen, who was catching a flight to Denmark with her husband, Kevin, and their dog, Jetta. \u201cWe\u2019re really fortunate that we\u2019re getting ahead of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others travelers to Europe said they weren\u2019t worried their flights were going to be delayed. They saw the words \u201con time\u201d flashed on nearby screens showing that most flights flying out of San Francisco on Thursday were departing as scheduled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was monitoring the situation with the shutdown, but today, maybe we\u2019re lucky,\u201d said Raphael Heisen, who said he was flying to Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation \u2026 I\u2019m truly worried about that,&#8221; Heisen told The Center Square about the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ey.com\/en_us\/insights\/strategy\/macroeconomics\/looming-government-shutdown\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> published by EY-Parthenon, the federal government shutdown could cost the American economy $7 billion a week, leading to a 0.1% decline in gross domestic product growth.
