LOS ANGELES \u2014 A new nationwide study conducted by the United Farm Workers Foundation surveyed more than 2,000 farmworkers \u2014 including those who are documented and those lacking permanent legal status \u2014 about the impact immigration enforcement has had on their community over the past year.<\/p>\n
The 29-page report shows that 90% of farmworkers surveyed said they worry about family separation because of deportations. Of those who responded, 49% said they have not lived in their country of origin for many years, while 13% fear persecution in their birthplaces.<\/p>\n
In mid-June 2025, President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Homeland Security to pause immigration enforcement on farms and hotels, but then reversed course shortly after. <\/p>\n
Right now, there is a bill before Congress that would help some farmworkers who entered the country illegally get temporary legal status by expanding the H-2A farm guest worker program.<\/p>\n
