There is a great deal of excitement on the hill as we prepare to welcome students back for another school year at Garces Memorial High School. While our mission of forming young men and women of faith, compassion, knowledge and justice remains unchanged, our campus continues to evolve in ways that will better serve today\u2019s students and future generations of Rams.<\/p>\n
This year marks one of the most significant transformations in our school\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
After months of planning and construction, we are proud to unveil three brand-new classroom buildings as part of Phase I of our capital campaign. The original 1930s, \u201940s and \u201950s classroom buildings have been replaced with beautiful, modern learning spaces designed to support today\u2019s educational needs while preserving the welcoming character of our campus.<\/p>\n
Our new facilities have increased our instructional capacity for those three buildings from 12 classrooms to 16 state-of-the-art classrooms. One of the buildings was expanded to include eight classrooms, providing flexible learning environments equipped with the latest technology to support collaborative, innovative instruction. These new spaces represent far more than new buildings \u2014 they are an investment in the future of Catholic education in Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
Across campus, visitors will notice additional improvements designed to enhance both the beauty and functionality of Garces Memorial.<\/p>\n
Our tennis complex now features two new shade structures, providing much-needed comfort for our student-athletes, coaches and spectators throughout the year. We are also in the process of transforming the rear entrance near the gymnasium and Salvucci Aquatics Center into a welcoming gateway that reflects the timeless charm and character of our campus.<\/p>\n
Nearby, the complete renovation of the boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 restrooms adjacent to our new classroom buildings is nearing completion, providing updated facilities that better serve our students and visitors.<\/p>\n
Another exciting project is just getting underway inside Monsignor Leddy Hall. We will soon begin installing large glass doors that open directly onto the courtyard near the music building, creating a brighter, more inviting gathering space for students, families and community events.<\/p>\n
This enhancement will strengthen the connection between our indoor and outdoor spaces while preserving the architectural beauty of one of our most beloved campus buildings.<\/p>\n
Innovation extends beyond our buildings and into our academic programs.<\/p>\n
As workforce needs continue to evolve, Garces Memorial remains committed to preparing students for successful college and career pathways. This fall, we are excited to launch our new Medical Academy, designed for students who aspire to careers in medicine and the health sciences. Through rigorous coursework, hands-on learning opportunities and partnerships with professionals in the medical field, students will gain valuable exposure to one of today\u2019s fastest-growing career sectors.<\/p>\n
Our Agricultural Business and Project Lead The Way Engineering pathways continue to expand as well. These programs provide students with meaningful, real-world experiences that prepare them for success long before they graduate from Garces.<\/p>\n
Our FFA chapter continues to flourish, giving students opportunities to compete and learn at both the California State FFA Conference and the National FFA Convention. These experiences expose students to emerging agricultural technologies, leadership development and career opportunities while strengthening the values of responsibility, service and stewardship.<\/p>\n
To further support our growing agriculture program, we are converting one of our structures into a dedicated Agricultural Mechanics classroom. This new space will be equipped with industry-standard tools and equipment, allowing students to gain hands-on experience while expanding their technical skills in fabrication, equipment maintenance and other agricultural mechanics disciplines.<\/p>\n
Our engineering students will also benefit from expanded opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world careers through visits to engineering firms, universities and industry partners. These experiences allow students to see firsthand how the concepts they learn at Garces are applied in today\u2019s rapidly changing world.<\/p>\n
Athletics has also received important upgrades. Sam Tobias Field now features new energy-efficient LED lighting, improving visibility for student-athletes while enhancing the game-day experience for our families and fans. The new lighting system reflects our ongoing commitment to providing first-class facilities for every aspect of student life.<\/p>\n
While these physical improvements are exciting, they are simply tools that help us fulfill our greater mission.<\/p>\n
At Garces Memorial, education is about much more than classrooms, technology, or facilities. It is about forming young men and women who will lead lives rooted in faith, committed to service and prepared to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Every project we undertake is guided by that purpose.<\/p>\n
As we begin another school year, we are filled with gratitude for the generosity of our alumni, parents, donors and friends whose support has made these improvements possible. Together, we are ensuring that Garces Memorial remains a place where tradition and innovation work hand in hand to provide an exceptional Catholic education.<\/p>\n
