WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Friday released more than 700 pages of tax returns from 2021-2024, showing that his family paid nearly $200,000 for household staff for the last year.<\/p>\n
In addition to the $200,000 spent on wages of household staff in 2024, the Newsoms spent between $14,000 and $44,000 a year on childcare for three of their four children, according to tax returns reviewed by The New York Times<\/a> and The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n Newsom and first partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom earned between $1.7 million and $2 million annually from 2022 through 2024, according to the AP. From 2021-2024, the couple paid nearly $2.8 million in federal income taxes and about $500,000 in California income taxes, the Times reported.<\/p>\n Siebel Newsom\u2019s production company, Girls Club Entertainment, continued to lose money, according to the tax returns, per the Times. The company lost about $37,000 in 2022, while Siebel Newsom reported earning just $11,700 from the business. She also collected $150,000 from her nonprofit, The Representation Project, to promote films and other initiatives about addressing gender stereotypes.<\/p>\n Newsom received $70,000 in author income in 2023 and another $75,000 in 2024, but the Times said it was unclear whether the payments came from his recently published memoir, \u201cYoung Man in a Hurry,\u201d or other publishing projects.<\/p>\n California’s first couple donated Armani business attire they originally purchased for about $45,000 to an Oakland restorative justice nonprofit in 2022, the Times reported. They estimated the clothes\u2019 thrift-store value at $4,900 on their tax filings.<\/p>\n The Newsoms donated between $40,000 and $67,000 to charity each year during the four-year period.<\/p>\n Newsom’s office released the tax filings following weeks of questions over why he had stopped publicly releasing his returns after 2020, despite repeatedly promising to disclose them annually while serving as governor.<\/p>\n His approximately $200,000 annual gubernatorial salary was only a fraction of the family\u2019s earnings, with most of the income coming from winery, restaurant, and hospitality businesses that he placed into a blind trust after taking office. The returns reportedly do not show which individual businesses generated profits or losses.<\/p>\n Newsom\u2019s office did not release 2025 tax returns because the couple filed for an extension and expects to complete them in October, the New York Post reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re unremarkable and entirely consistent with what Californians already know from his annual Form 700 disclosures,\u201d spokesperson Diana Crofts-Pelayo previously told the Post.<\/p>\n \u201cThe governor publicly released his tax returns while he was on the ballot and is happy to go above and beyond by releasing the remaining years as well.\u201d<\/p>\n The tax returns release comes as the Newsoms are subjects of a federal investigation<\/a>, which the governor says is politically motivated.<\/p>\n
