A 0.7-mile stretch of Shaw Avenue is getting a $1.6 million makeover this fall.<\/p>\n
The Fresno City Council approved a construction contract Thursday for the city\u2019s primary east-west commercial thoroughfare from Fruit Avenue to approximately 950 feet east of Palm Avenue.<\/p>\n
The project will repave Shaw Avenue in both directions, \u201ccreating a smoother, safer ride for thousands of motorists who travel the corridor each day,\u201d the city said in a press release Friday.<\/p>\n
Additional improvements include new curb ramps, updated roadway signage and fresh striping.<\/p>\n
\u201cShaw Avenue is one of Fresno\u2019s busiest corridors, and people have been waiting to see this stretch get repaved,\u201d Mayor Jerry Dyer said. \u201cToday is an important milestone because the wait is over, we\u2019re turning those plans into action. The steps we take today will serve this community for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to begin this fall and be completed before Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
The construction contract was approved with Cal Valley Construction, Inc. to the amount of $1,636,501.<\/p>\n
The project is funded through the federal Surface Transportation Block Grant program, with the required local match provided through California\u2019s SB-1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account, according to the city.<\/p>\n
