At 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, the NWS Los Angeles\/Oxnard CA released an updated high surf advisory in effect until 5 p.m. The advisory is for Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

“Breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet with frequent, dangerous rip currents, highest across south to southwest facing beaches exposed to southerly swells. Very strong rip currents are occuring along some beaches,” can be anticipated according to the NWS. “High tides of 5.8 to 6.5 feet will occur in the evening hours tonight.”<\/p>\n

“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” adds the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”<\/p>\n

This advisory is in effect until 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
