Red Sox trade Marcelo Mayer to San Francisco Giants for reliever Erik Miller<\/p>\n

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade infielder Marcelo Mayer to the San Francisco Giants for reliever Erik Miller.<\/p>\n

Mayer, 23, is currently on the injured list. He’s hitting .220 with three home runs and 22 RBI in 70 games this season.<\/p>\n

Mayer was the team’s former top prospect, but he has struggled at the plate the past two years in the majors, batting .223 with seven homers in 114 career games.<\/p>\n

Miller, 28, is a left-handed reliever. He has a 2.76 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 38 games this season with the Giants. <\/p>\n

Miller had a 1.50 ERA in 36 games last season for San Francisco. <\/p>\n

The Red Sox also received outfield prospect Carlos Gutierrez in the deal.
