Long Beach is set to get 18 speed cameras spread across the city<\/a> as its efforts to harry drivers into slowing down intensify.<\/p>\n

Cameras will be installed at 18 different spots, including Long Beach Boulevard<\/a> and Artesia Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Residents should expect tickets if they speed by 11 mph or more, with fines rising as drivers exceed the speed limit.<\/p>\n

Like most speed cameras, they will take photos of speeding vehicles’ rear license plates. The fine scale is as follows:<\/p>\n

Long Beach will install 18 speed cameras across the city, including along Long Beach Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard. NBC Los Angeles<\/p>\n

But residents will have until at least Dec. 3 before the cameras will start issuing citations. A 60-day warning period will begin no later than Oct. 4.<\/p>\n

But city officials believe the speed cameras will lower traffic fatalities. The city endured 53 such deaths in 2025, the most since the 1990s.<\/p>\n

One Long Beach resident who uses a wheelchair told NBC Los Angeles<\/a> she has been struck by a vehicle three times.<\/p>\n

“They just turn. I have the light, and I have the right of way. And they just make the turn anyway without even looking,” Sylvia Adams told the outlet. “It’s dangerous for pedestrians. Even when I’m in my wheelchair, it’s dangerous for us.”<\/p>\n

A teenager miraculously survived after totaling her car during a\u00a0dangerous drag racing crash<\/a>\u00a0in Long Beach last month.<\/p>\n

Witnesses say the young driver crashed her car while racing a BMW.<\/p>\n
