SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

It’s the most literary of makeovers. The Martin Luther King, Jr. library is back open after 18 months of renovations.

The library was built in 1970 and hadn’t undergone any physical improvements since that time. The new design features a raised ceiling that creates an open, airy floorplan.

Colors are light and bright and there are multiple places to relax and read.

Th children’s area features spaces to play, do crafts and fall in love with books.

Peter Coyl is the Sacramento Public Library Director and CEO. He says the updated design includes modern amenities you didn’t find in libraries from years ago. There’s a maker space with 3-D printing, crafting and an audio booth.

And while the floorplan is very open, there are also opportunities to find a quiet place to study and collaborate.

“We’ve added three study rooms. We didn’t have any before. People want a space to do their projects . We have three study rooms, a large one and two small ones, that people can use,” says Coyl.

The $8.3 million renovation was funded mostly from a grant from the California State Library’s Building Forward Library Facilities Improvement Program.

The community is invited to a grand opening celebration on Aug. 15.

See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel | Make KCRA a preferred news source in Google

Sacramento’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Library reopens after renovations SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It’s the most literary of makeovers.…

[32
169136,2820,24264,647,23615,2518,169134,473,35921,45069,65871,58980,592,169135,14808,121,123,122,169133,169138,1744,169137
post-423898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sacramento","tag-airy-floorplan","tag-app","tag-book","tag-books","tag-download","tag-grand-opening","tag-jr-library","tag-kcra","tag-library","tag-martin-luther-king","tag-martin-luther-king-jr","tag-new-design","tag-people","tag-peter-coyl","tag-renovation","tag-sacramento","tag-sacramento-headlines","tag-sacramento-news","tag-sacramento-public-library","tag-sacramento-public-library-director","tag-space","tag-study-room
["GET
