OAKLAND \u2014 A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition from a fentanyl overdose, and now the child\u2019s mother and her boyfriend are facing child abuse charges, court records show.<\/p>\n
The boy\u2019s mother, a 35-year-old Oakland woman, and her boyfriend, a 28-year-old Oakland man, were both charged with felony child abuse. Police say that on June 21, the boy passed out at dinner at a home on Thornhill Drive in the city\u2019s Montclair neighborhood, and was found to have cocaine and fentanyl in his system.<\/p>\n
The boy was given Narcan at the hospital and intubated, authorities said.<\/p>\n
In court filings, police say the mother\u2019s boyfriend was \u201cknown to have had opioid problems in the past,\u201d but that they\u2019re still investigating exactly how the boy was able to ingest the drugs. Suspected cocaine and fentanyl were found in the home, according to court records.<\/p>\n
The boy\u2019s mother was released from jail without bail and her boyfriend was freed after posting $10,000 bail, court records show.
