(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 Bakersfield Police say Flock cameras helped lead to the arrest of a 67-year-old man for <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/bpd-pedestrian-killed-in-union-avenue-hit-and-run-after-exiting-vehicle-bakersfield-police-department-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">allegedly hitting and killing a 17-year-old girl on Union Avenue in July.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/bpd-pedestrian-killed-in-union-avenue-hit-and-run-after-exiting-vehicle-bakersfield-police-department-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">17-year-old girl killed in Union Avenue hit-and-run after exiting vehicle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bakersfield Police Department said on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at around 10:45 p.m., officers were called to the 3600 block of Union Avenue regarding a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian, identified as 17-year-old Love Icelyn Dixon of Bakersfield, down in the roadway suffering severe injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the teen got out of a vehicle that had stopped in the number one lane of northbound Union Avenue when they were struck by the involved vehicle, which was traveling north in the number two lane.<\/p>\n<p>The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, 67-year-old Jeff Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for felony hit-and-run.<\/p>\n<p>Bakerfield Police said investigators assigned to the Major Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) and Hit and Run investigators conducted an extensive follow-up investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Police said that Flock safety cameras were \u201cinvaluable\u201d in assisting in identifying the suspect vehicle. Further investigation identified a possible suspect, and a search warrant was authorized for the vehicle and the suspect\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle was found with damage consistent with the crash and physical evidence present on the front of the vehicle, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson also had an unrelated warrant on a separate case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
