FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 A candlelight vigil in Fresno brought together family and friends of 30-year-old Alison Riley, also known as Tatyana McIntyre, as police announced murder charges against her ex-boyfriend after her body was found inside his home earlier this week.<\/p>\n
The Fresno Police Department said Thursday morning that 39-year-old Jeffrey Michaels is being charged with murdering McIntyre. <\/p>\n
Loved ones gathered to honor her life.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe meant a lot to a lot of people,\u201d Liberty Lopez, McIntyre’s mother, said. \u201cShe was awesome. She was fun to be around. She was a life of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lopez said she felt relief after learning Michaels had turned himself in.<\/p>\n
\u201cI turned to my husband. I was like, ‘They got him,’ and he said, ‘Where?,’ and I said, ‘He turned himself in,’ which is, I’m glad he did,” Lopez said. <\/p>\n
During the gathering, loved ones lit candles, burned sage and released balloons. <\/p>\n
Lopez addressed her daughter directly, saying, \u201cBaby girl, I love you and I miss you. And I’m so sorry that this happened to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fresno police said McIntyre was stabbed multiple times, and officers are still searching for the murder weapon. <\/p>\n
Police also confirmed there was a history of domestic violence between McIntyre and Michaels.<\/p>\n
Screenshots obtained by FOX26 show Riley texting her mother about a time Michaels allegedly strangled her and broke her dresser.<\/p>\n
Police said Michaels drove to Salinas before turning around and ultimately turning himself in. Officials said he is fully cooperating.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough nothing will make up for Tatiana’s unimaginable loss that her family will suffer with forever. I hope that they get some measure of comfort by the fact that we were able to bring the this to a conclusion with the arrest of Michael’s and that he will be facing charges of murder and justice will be done,” Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said.<\/p>\n

Family says McIntyre never arrived to pick up her daughter from school, raising immediate concern.<\/p>\n
Rental car located<\/p>\n
Family says McIntyre was driving a Zipcar rental. GPS data led relatives to an orchard near McKinley and Academy, where they say the vehicle was found abandoned with her belongings still inside. Deputies later confiscated the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Wednesday Evening<\/p>\n
Family members say investigators served a search warrant at McIntyre’s ex-boyfriend’s home on Grove Avenue, where FOX26 observed a large law enforcement presence. Lopez said homicide detectives were at the scene while family members waited outside for answers.<\/p>\n
Lopez said McIntyre had previously told her about alleged domestic violence involving the children’s father, including incidents in which she claimed he choked her and prevented her from leaving the home. Lopez said those allegations had previously been reported to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Family members also told FOX26 the ex-boyfriend has not responded to calls from relatives and, they believe, has not been at the home since McIntyre disappeared.<\/p>\n
