What happened?<\/p>\n
On the evening of Aug. 7, responders were called to the Oats Peak area after a horse went over the edge of a trail while carrying a rider, according to A-Town Daily News<\/a>.<\/p>\n No injuries were reported for either the rider or the horse.<\/p>\n Cal Fire \/ San Luis Obispo County Fire Department said on X<\/a> that crews were assisted by a California Highway Patrol H-70 helicopter, which was used to bring rescuers into the area. State parks staff, Morro Bay Fire, and San Luis Obispo City Fire also took part in the response.<\/p>\n Responders accompanied the horse and rider for roughly five miles out of the park after crews made a route up the slope that allowed the horse to find its footing on the trail.<\/p>\n Why does it matter?<\/p>\n Monta\u00f1a de Oro State Park is known<\/a> for its rugged cliffs, and a 50- to 60-foot fall in that terrain can easily become a life-threatening emergency.\u00a0<\/p>\n The fact that neither the rider nor the horse was injured makes this a rare outcome in an area where narrow trails, unstable footing, and steep drop-offs can quickly turn dangerous.<\/p>\n What’s being done?<\/p>\n In this case, responders took a measured approach that prioritized safety over speed.
