Families filled Reagan Elementary School in Bakersfield with smiles, photos and hugs on the first day of school, as students returned to campus for the start of a new year.<\/p>\n
In the background, first-year assistant principal Susanna Letourneau took in the moment and said the start to the school year had gone smoothly.<\/p>\n
“It’s going great,” Letourneau said. “We had Meet-the-Teacher yesterday. All the parents are very excited. The students are excited. The staff is thrilled to have everyone back on campus. So it’s been a wonderful, wonderful week. Thus far, first day of school, very exciting for kids.”<\/p>\n
Letourneau said Wednesday was an important day for students as they settle in and connect with the adults who will guide them through the year.<\/p>\n
“I think today is important just for students to feel comfortable with their teachers and the staff and just making sure we really establish those relationships with everyone including the community and parents,” she said.<\/p>\n
Asked what kind of year she expects at Reagan Elementary, Letourneau said she is optimistic.<\/p>\n
“It’s gonna be a great year, Fingers crossed. No, I have no doubt. It will be a fantastic year with our students and parents.
