(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Bakersfield Police Department will hold a DUI and driver&#8217;s license checkpoint on Friday, August 14, at an undisclosed location within the city, between 6:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. A large-scale DUI Saturation Patrol will also be held at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and\/or drug impairment; meanwhile, other officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing and temporarily delaying them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/chp-to-hold-weekend-dui-and-license-checkpoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SIMILAR: CHP to hold weekend DUI and license checkpoint on August 15<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When needed, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, including not only illegal narcotics, but also many prescription drugs, marijuana, and even some over-the-counter medications.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the effects of DUI checkpoints are a proven resource in reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug-related crashes.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers caught while driving impaired can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that could exceed $10,000.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. <\/p>\n<p>If anyone sees a suspected impaired driver, they are encouraged to call 9-1-1.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
